Illegal/Legal Exposures, 2021

Greetings and salutations from Detective Bubbe, searching for illegal exposures.

I think they're on to me over at NMJL headquarters. I'm usually able to spot several illegal exposures, but this year, they've done their best to throw me off the trail. Singular illegal exposures are few and far between.

There are no Flower pungs on this year's card. We've got quints of Flowers, we've got kongs of Flowers, we've got unexposable pairs of Flowers... But there are no pungs.

As for Numbers, check it out: there is no pung, nor kong, nor quint that, by itself, is illegal!! There have been years where an exposure of a pung of 9s wasn't "legit," but this year both LN #3 and 369 #3 include two of them! I think the card designers are trolling me.

 

Just as with Numbers, there are no restrictions on a single, legal exposure of Winds. It could be a quint, a kong, or a pung. 

A single exposure of any pung OR kong of Dragons is legal this year. There are no quints of Dragons, and although they couldn't be exposed anyway, if you look all over the card you'll notice there are no pairs of Dragons either.

So as for just the one exposure, keep your eye out for a pung of Flowers or a quint of Dragons. Any other pung, kong, or quint (by itself) is legal!

That was too easy. I owe it to you to do a little more sleuthing, so let's talk about any combination of two exposures that would be LEGAL (all others make your hand dead). 

There are nearly 300 of these combinations. You might find it to be a useful exercise to take some time, each day, to find a dozen of these combinations on the card (and see if you find any that I missed!).
